Flames, speakers, and standing waves
I'm a student at the University of Oklahoma, and today my professor was teaching us about open and closed pipes and the acoustic properties of each. This example shows how air moves inside a closed pipe. The flames are created via propane coming out of tiny holes in the top. The flames are higher where the air is moving more inside. Ultrasonic Audio Stations using Sony PSP speakers and Dream.
Using the analog mode of Dream, a software defined radio, it is possible to have two "audio stations" playing music ultrasonically through the Playstation Portable's speakers. Just like an AM radio, the stations are staked one atop the other in the spectrum. But instead of using radio waves the way a radio station does, an audio station uses sound waves. If you have really good hearing, you can hear the music shifted up in frequency playing through the PSP's speakers. [

Cornstarch on a speaker
Cornstarch+water mixture on a speaker (there's plastic wrap between, I'm not ruining it :). A varying sine wave (about between 20 and 200 Hz) is fed to the speaker. [

20 Hz on Subwoofer
For those who said that we can hear frequencies from 20 Hz..you can see the speaker almost going out of the cabinet... but no audible sound there... is a 18" speaker with a sine wave on 20 hz.. [
