Russian VFD-VU meter
I bought a bunch of them at eBay. They all need some work, there is one FET missing. I did not have a KP303B so I used a BF256C. The FET forms a constant current source that defines the 0-point of the vu meter. I think a BF245 would do also ... The spec sheet says that you need 6.3V AC current for heating of the VFD. I used a 5V DC and it works well. Besides the 5V you need +-15V dc regulated for the opamps and the logic chips. The +15V is also used for anode voltage of the VFD tube. [ go to Youtube.com ]

Current Affairs - Jensen Model 15
Just some quick power testing on the Jensen 15 with the previously used apparatus. The variable resistor starts at 1000 ohms and is slowly wound down to zero. Voltage across the resistor is indicated on the black meter, and current on the red one.
I did not think to meter the max voltage of the generator, so will have to do that another time. [
